The Salts, one of the most energetic and original folk concept bands around, are taking their new album ‘Live in London Town’ around the UK this summer. Keep reading for more information on their July show ´Songs from the Sea´ with Phil Beer, their August headliner show at Copredy festival and some exclusive comments from Brian Doran on what we can expect from them this summer!
The Salts are an acoustic rock-folk co-operative formed by a group of sea-shanty and folk music lovers from Dorking, Surrey. Their current members- Brian Doran (Vocals, Mandolin, Whistle), Lee Collinson (Vocals, Banjo, Acoustic Guitar), Jeremy Hart (Vocals, Acoustic Guitar), Richard Nash (Vocals, Drums) and Tim Cantrell (Vocals, Double Bass)- have mastered a unique sound, which skilfully mixes original compositions and traditional folk tunes with a punk rock attitude, combining their unique talents to thrill diverse audiences and encourage them to sing and dance like there’s no tomorrow.
This summer looks very promising for The Salts. After starting 2025 off with a bang at the West Coast Folk Festival, where they performed alongside folk hit-maker Judie Tzuke and cemented themselves as a powerful unit of polished performers who certainly deserve their rising reputation, they have continued the momentum from this hit performance with a string of Theatre dates. Now, they have announced a number of dates for the 2025 summer season, with three very special performances and headliner shows taking place across the summer.
On June 8th, The Salts will be headlining Wimborne Minster Folk Festival, a longstanding event that has presented crowds with glorious weekends full of glorious music, dancing and family-friendly fun since the turn of the 80s. The Salts will be performing a Sunday Lunchtime show at the Allendale, supported by Chris Ricketts and Antoine & Owena, as the final ticketed event for this year´s festival.
Then, on July 26th, The Salts will be putting on a very unique show at The Beehive (in Honiton) called the ´Songs from the Sea´. The Salts will be playing alongside extra special guest Phil Beer, presenting Honiton´s crowd with an exciting night out of family-friendly fun “celebrating maritime classics that we all know and love” like no other. Phil is one of the UK´s most well-known ambassadors for acoustic roots music. He is also a multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, and one half of English acoustic roots duo Show of Hands, one of the most powerful current forces in acoustic English music. About the ´Songs from the Sea´ show, The Salts´ own Brian Doran said "The crowd can expect to hear sea shanties & original sea songs like never before! We have 5 part vocal harmonies, a mandolin, a banjo, a double-bass, drums, a guitar & whistles", and of course, an innate ability to entertain any crowd. Brian´s favourite song to perform at the moment is "Come Ill Winds, a new one about slavery. It has an excellent 5 part Accapella introduction!", so be sure to keep an eye out for it during this one-of-a-kind show!
To finish off this incredible summer season, The Salts will be playing a huge show at Fairport’s Cropredy Convention (at the Cropredy Festival Site) on Saturday 9th August. "Cropredy is a music festival – it could never be pidgeon-holed as a folk festival. Along with the finest in folk and folk rock – Lindisfarne, Julie Fowlis, Steeleye Span, Ralph McTell, Cara Dillon – the Cropredy audience has witnessed the likes of Alice Cooper, Robert Plant, Status Quo, Steve Winwood and Buzzcocks". Because of this, Brian told Folk & Honey that this festival is what The Salts are most anticipating out of the 2025 summer seaon: "The jewel in the crown has to be playing Fairport’s Cropredy Convention alongside many legends on August 9th. Also, our annual show over the last decade at Wiltons Music Hall London is always great!".
With this, Brian teases The Salts´ first show of the autumnal season. They will kick off this season with a show on Tuesday the 2nd September at the world famous Wilton’s Music Hall Theatre, in London, where they recorded their latest CD ‘Live in London Town’. When asked about the highlights of The Salts´ trajectory in 2025, Brian said "We have played some great gigs already this year. Probably the best was a standing ovation from the capacity crowd at Roade Village Hall. They also provided amazing food!", although it seems like they are just gathering speed and have no intention to stop. Be sure to keep reading for more information and a complete list of their summer dates.
